We are currently seeking an experienced shotfirer to assist with blast crew operations at Meandu Mine.

Meandu Mine
BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.
Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
Meandu is a residential mine nearby to the town of Nanango and within 50km of the thriving township of Kingaroy. As residential mine, camp accommodation is not provided.
About the Role:
Our Meandu site team is currently seeking applications for a shotfirer to assist with blast crew operations. Reporting to the Dragline, Drill & Blasting & Earthworks Supervisor you will be required to achieve maximum efficiency while maintaining safety and company standards and complying with BUMA’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a sound understanding of the legislative and site SHMS requirement as they apply to the role.
- Maintain competencies/appointments, and licence (if necessary), to fulfil the role of Shotfirer at Meandu Mine.
- Oversee and control delivery, storage and use of explosives on site.
- Comply with Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to the use of Explosives.
- Only issue explosives related duties to people with required competencies and authorisations that can be verified.
- If an unacceptable level of risk is identified, take action necessary to rectify hazards, or prevent exposure.
- Notify the relevant Supervisor of known hazards and action taken to protect personnel.
- Withdraw personnel from areas of unacceptable risk.
- Participate in risk assessments and development/review of PHMP’s, SOP’s and Work Procedures as required.
- Maintain records in accordance with site standards.
- Conduct equipment and area inspections and record inspection results as required.
About You:
The successful candidate will demonstrate operational experience as a Blast Crew member in a mining environment as well as:
- Experience operating as a full shotfirer;
- Knowledge of explosive and storage regulations;
- Knowledge of blasting and blasting procedures;
- QLD Shotfirers Licence;
- Current HR licence (highly desirable);
- An impeccable safety record and commitment toward safety.
