About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our Meandu project on a full time permanent basis. Reporting to the HST Superintendent, you will assist and support the Health and Safety function in the implementation, coordination and effectiveness of all functional health and safety issues at the mine.

Key responsibilities include:

• Management System review and development: providing expert input and leadership to safety and health and integrated management system development, reviews and implementation
• Risk Management: facilitation of risk assessments and mentoring of the risk assessment process to front line and middle management, contributing to the identification, elimination and control of workplace hazards
• Incident Management: leading safety investigations (including ICAM), preparing reports and making recommendations or implementation of corrective and preventative actions

• Audits and Inspections: preparation, participation and facilitation of audit programs (Critical Risk, SHMS, hygiene, contractor management etc); conducting workplace inspections, critical control observations and field leadership activities and providing guidance and coaching on improving safety practices

• Fitness for Work Management: facilitating injury management and workplace rehabilitation for injured workers in consultation with medical practitioners and department leaders
• Communicating to employees on site performance as well as broader corporate departments in regard to safety issues

• Contractor Management: leading continuous improvement activities and providing knowledge to implement and monitor the Contractor Management System
• Continuous Improvement: supporting ongoing development of health, safety and compliance improvement frameworks by mentoring, coaching and developing Safety Advisors in the performance of their roles

About You: 

• Formal Health & Safety qualifications in WHS / Risk / Hygiene (Advanced Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety or a related qualification minimum)
• RIIRIS402 (G2)
• S1-S3 (Supervisor competencies)
• Rehabilitation and Return to Work competency
• Incident investigation qualification (ICAM Facilitator)
• Lead Auditor qualification (RABQSA or Diploma of Quality Auditing) - desirable
• 5+ years’ experience in a Health & Safety position within a high risk / heavy work industry (mining, oil & gas, construction, manufacturing)
• Understanding of risk management practices, incident investigation and analysis techniques, and SHMS development and implementation
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within the mining industry will be highly regarded
• Positive influencer with ability to engage with people from multi cultures
• Energetic with a professional desire to improve H&S at a front-line level

Meandu Mine

BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.

Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
