About the Role:
BUMA are currently seeking a Liaison Officer to fulfill a 12-month fixed term contract at our Meandu project. You will be responsible for providing onboarding, mentoring and cultural support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Trainee Operators, along with the wider Meandu team for the duration of the 12-month program.
Please note this is a Residential Mine – no camp accommodation or housing provided. As such this role would be best suited to current or returning residents of the Kingaroy region
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide mentoring, onboarding, and cultural wellbeing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Trainee Operators and employees.
- Facilitate career development by encouraging training participation and guiding employees through the mentoring program.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owners, Elders, Indigenous communities, and organisations.
- Support and align community-based employment and training initiatives with the organisation’s Indigenous Employment and Retention Strategy.
- Promote cultural awareness and inclusion through internal engagement and external community activities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records related to program delivery and employee progress.
- Work as part of the Meandu team to achieve strategic and day to day business KPI’s.
About You:
- Hold a current QLD Drivers Licence, with the ability to confidently operate a vehicle.
- Ability to undergo a Coal Board Medical, Criminal History Check and Drug & Alcohol screen.
- Ability to provide two references, along with proof of residential address.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and relationship building skills.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment initiatives.

Meandu Mine
BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.
Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
