About the Role:
We are seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to join our team at Meandu on a full time permanent basis. Reporting to the HST Superintendent, you will help coordinate site-based occupational Health & Safety activities to support workplace competence, protect equipment integrity and ensure the safe use and handling of materials.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with maintaining the site’s Safety and Health Management System (SHMS), including updating procedures and ensuring they meet legal requirements
- Assisting with safety incident investigations and supporting the development of reports and follow-up actions
- Taking part in risk assessments and helping frontline teams understand and manage workplace hazards
- Identifying and addressing safety issues on site
- Participating in regular safety inspections, audits and field checks, offering practical advice to improve safety practices
- Supporting injured workers with return to work, working alongside health professionals
- Helping to coordinate monitoring and audits related to workplace health (e.g. dust, noise, hygiene)
- Sharing safety updates with site teams and communicating key messages across departments
- Working closely with other safety team members and learning from experienced advisors
- Assisting with emergency response planning and help manage site security programs
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety or a related qualification
- 2+ years’ experience in a Health & Safety position, ideally in mining or other heavy industry
- Experience with Microsoft suite including SharePoint and safety and training databases
- Understanding of health and safety regulations within the mining industry will be highly regarded
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship building skills

Meandu Mine
BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.
Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.
