Meandu Mine

 

BUMA Australia provides a total mine service to Stanwell Corporation’s Meandu Mine to deliver coal to the adjacent Tarong power station. We are responsible for both managing and operating the mine.

 

Services provided include planning, drilling, overburden removal, coal mining, coal processing, rehabilitation, and maintenance of mobile and fixed plant. The project uses a combination of dragline and truck-and shovel operations. Meandu Mine currently has five working pits, with sufficient coal to fuel the stations until at least 2037.

 

We are currently seeking a CHPP Plant Metallurgist to join the team at our Meandu Mine site located 25 kilometres south-east of Kingaroy.

 

Please note that Meandu is a residential mine with no accommodation provided, therefore only those local to the area will be successful in their application.
 

About the Role:

Our Meandu CHPP team is currently seeking a dedicated Plant Metallurgist to join us on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the CHPP Manager and assisting the CHPP Senior Process Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising four CHPP operations crews. Your role will focus on ensuring seamless collaboration between Tarong Power Stations, Meandu CHPP, and Meandu Mine. You will oversee operational efficiency while ensuring all metallurgical processes comply with safety, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and Supervise Operations Crews: Lead and manage four CHPP operations crews to ensure efficient and safe plant operations, while managing compliance with all relevant regulations, processing KPIs and standards within the CHPP team.
  • Facilitate Interdepartmental Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between Tarong Power Stations, Meandu CHPP, and Meandu Mine to ensure smooth operational workflows.
  • Monitor Plant Performance: Oversee the monitoring, reporting, and optimisation of the Meandu CHPP plant to meet KPIs, safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support Senior Process Engineer: Assist the CHPP Senior Process Engineer in process optimisation and metallurgical analyses.
  • Data Analysis and Improvement: Analyse plant performance data to identify areas for operational improvement, compliance and implement necessary changes.
  • Troubleshoot Operational Issues: Address and resolve operational and metallurgical issues that arise during production to minimize downtime.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare and present technical reports, performance summaries, and improvement plans to management and stakeholders.
  • Business Improvement Initiatives: Identify and contribute to projects aimed at increasing operating hours, enhancing plant efficiencies, improving product quality, and optimising yield.
     


About You:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in operational coordination within a CHPP or similar Processing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination between departments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations in the mining industry.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues.
