Burton Mine Complex
BUMA Australia has been awarded the contract to develop and mine several satellite pits that are near the old Burton Mine. Coal extracted at these satellite pits will be transported and processed through the Burton CHPP and railed from the onsite Train Load Out facility. Burton is world renowned for its high-quality coking coal which is highly sought after in global export markets.
The scope of works includes statutory management of the mining operations, clearing, grubbing and topsoil removal, drill and blast, load and haul of coal and waste, dump management and progressive rehabilitation works.
About the Role:
We have an opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to join our Burton Mine Complex on an 8/6 roster. Reporting to the HST Superintendent, the Health & Safety Advisor will coordinate site based occupational Health & Safety activities to ensure the competence and well-being of people, the integrity of equipment and the safe handling of materials.
You will be responsible for ensuring the Health, Safety and Training systems are compliant with the site Safety and Health Management System (SHMS), legislation and standards and work to continuously improve the safety culture and performance of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitating safety investigations (ICAM), preparing reports and recommendations, and implementing corrective and preventative actions
- Facilitation of Risk Assessments and mentoring of the risk assessment process to front line and middle management
- Identification of safety issues and problems, ensuring corrective action is taken and monitored
- Conducting regular audits, workplace inspections, critical control observations and field leadership activities, and providing guidance and coaching on improving safety practices
- Facilitating workplace rehabilitation and return-to-work programs for injured workers in consultation with medical practitioners
- Assisting with maintaining and complying with the site SHMS including providing recommendations to the client
- Providing support to site personnel to ensure training needs are maintained to a high standard
- Communicating to employees on project performance as well as broader corporate departments with regard to health and safety performance
About You:
- Diploma in Workplace Health & Safety or equivalent highly regarded
- Workplace Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator experience is highly regarded
- Current Australian drivers licence

- RIIRIS402 Carry out the risk management process (G2)
- Competence in computer use with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of the mining industry’s regulations and legislation relating to health and safety or relevant heavy industry experience essential
- Good rapport building skills with site-based leaders and workforce
