About the Role:
We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our established team in South Brisbane. In this role you will provide commercial legal advice, governance and compliance support to the operational and corporate teams.
Key responsibilities include:
• Management and completion of all legal contract reviews and negotiations for downstream procurement
• Updating of downstream documents in line with legislative and regulatory changes
• Management of downstream disputes
• Advising operational teams to assist with the management of upstream and downstream engagements
• Provision of legal advice across a range of areas including commercial, construction, corporate, property, IP, Privacy, IR/HR and WHS
• Assistance with the interpretation and negotiation of client contracts
• Assistance with mediation, arbitration and litigation
• Development of instructions/brief to external counsel
• Development of BUMA company policies and procedures
• Preparation of clear advice to other business units, the Board and ELT
About You:
• Bachelor of Laws
• Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (or equivalent)
• Ability to hold an unrestricted Practising Certificate issued by a State Law Society
• Minimum of 2 years’ post-admission experience
• Strong experience in drafting and negotiation of contracts
• Experience across a range of commercial areas such as mining, construction, resources or related industries
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with all stakeholders within BUMA
• Willingness to acquire industry knowledge
• High standard of professional presentation
• Capable and willing to work in demanding environments
• Proven ability to work well within a team as well as autonomously when required
• Willingness to work 5 days per week in the office
