About the Role:
We are seeking a full time permanent Asset Engineer to join our Blackwater team. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, you will be responsible for providing technical support in the ongoing improvement of fleet operations through the use of innovative reliability, condition monitoring and asset technology techniques.
Key responsibilities:
- Run the reliability engineering and condition monitoring programs at site
- Ensure that the necessary information required for effective condition based maintenance (CBM) is collected, recorded and made available for use across the business
- Operate BUMA’s asset technology platform to enhance asset performance
- Use RCA techniques to identify root causes to asset issues and tailor engineered solutions
- Work with OEMs to ensure BUMA is supported within the engineering function
- Work with maintenance teams to improve work quality metrics, including improvement programs for workshop structure, tooling availability and bulk fuel/oil/coolant cleanliness baselines
- Work with site planning function for strategic improvement programs and condition interventions
- Act as the key link between site and Brisbane support engineers to share and absorb information as part of BUMA’s continuous improvement and innovation programs
- Ensure the BUMA engineering framework and improvement initiatives are communicated to the workshop trades
About You:
- Trade or engineering qualification and background essential; mechanical background desirable
- 3-5 years engineering experience working with open cut mining assets (Liebherr, Komatsu, Caterpillar, Hitachi)
- Excellent computer literacy and exposure to Microsoft software suites, particularly Excel and PowerBI
- Excellent understanding of condition based maintenance practices as well as reliability engineering framework
- Ability to educate and influence key stakeholders to drive strategic business objectives
- Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with multiple key stakeholders
- Ability to learn new tasks and perform effectively to meet deadlines
- Ability to react and adapt to changing situations

Blackwater Mine
Located in Central Queensland, Blackwater Mine is one of the state’s largest coal mines, just 21 km from Blackwater. BUMA Australia has been handling truck and excavator pre-strip operations here since 2012, moving over 35 million BCM of material annually.
Our fleet includes Komatsu 930E and Caterpillar 789C haul trucks, paired with Hitachi EX8000, Caterpillar 6060, and Hitachi EX3600 excavators.
